A bit of History

Pilates is an  exercise method developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century.

Jozeph Pilates believed that mental and physical health were essential to one another and created  a method of total body conditioning that emphasizes proper alignment, centering, concentration, control, precision, breathing, and flowing movement (The Pilates Principles). That results in increased flexibility, strength, muscle tone, body awareness, energy and improved mental concentration.
He used those principles to help injured solders in the First World war.

Joseph Pilates later used his knowledge in ballet and dance.

Pilates today

One of the best things about the Pilates method is that it works so well for a wide range of people. Athletes and dancers love it, as so do seniors, women rebounding from pregnancy and people at various stages of physical rehabilitation.
